Origins of the youtube-dl project
"As you may know, as of the time this text is being written youtube-dl’s repository at GitHub is blocked due to a DMCA takedown letter received by GitHub on behalf of the RIAA. While I cannot comment on the current maintainers' plans or ongoing discussions, in light of the claims made in that letter I thought it would be valuable to put in writing the first years of youtube-dl as the project creator and initial maintainer."
It’s extremely important that I show you the Serangoon Junior College Library website, which is hosted on Tripod and untouched since 1998 http://srjc_library.tripod.com
This the most metal thing I've seen in a long time.

I often like to be a little more exploratory than this, but great recommendations nonetheless!
@Gargron you are in the right here. That complaint showed no evidence of compromise being traced back to mastodon.social, and did indicate account and password reuse... which means any of the sites tha email was used at could be at fault.
Although it was more likely a drive-by password spray and a weak password that caused his breach... statistically speaking.
This twitter thread from the Caves Of Qud devs about how they keep the alt-right out of their game community is worth reading.
For centuries, it's been used as a domesticated ground cover plant. Clover nourishes other plants around it, by making trace minerals accessible and by fixing nitrogen from the air (it's a type of legume).
Just a few decades ago, it was considered an essential part of lawns. Clover seeds were always included with grass in seed mixes.
Then agricultural chemical companies convinced everyone it was a weed that needed to be killed, so they could sell both herbicides and lawn fertiliser.
As much as I favor minimalism, scrot is _not_ the tool to use for making screenshots. Let's be honest: how often do you share a screenshot to boast about your beautiful desktop appearance vs to draw the attention to something particular, such as when making a bug report?
Quick and dirty annotation tools should be built-in, unless you are a graphomaniac and writing long-winded explanations makes you happy - which is why I prefer flameshot (https://github.com/flameshot-org/flameshot)
"We moved to GitHub because everyone's already there"
"We shut down the mailing lists because most of our users prefer to use GitLab in their web browser"
"We're rewriting in Rust because we don't really have any non-x86_64 users"
"We're leaving IRC because Discord is more user-friendly"
What all of these arguments have in common is that they exclude people, centralize infrastructure, and eschew free software for proprietary solutions, all in the name of some ill-defined measure of "progress".
Branch is a new online magazine from climateaction.tech
"Branch is an attempt to envision something radically different: An Internet that was created for all of us and the planet we depend on. Within its pages, you’ll find essays, presentations, art pieces, and interviews with designers, software engineers, activists and more that sketch a picture of what a cleaner and more just digital world could look like."

@Main_Tomato Just as when Clegg became the newest pile of bricks propping up one of the wheels of the political car, we now have another labour leader who the press barons and corporate power mongers are happy with. One who's self-interest and deviousness is aligned with them and the people they are supposed to be there to oppose.
@Main_Tomato The label 'antisemitism' has been weaponised and used to carry out political sabotage even as outright fascist attitudes towards Muslims are spread unchecked in exactly the way that the same scape-goating of Jewish people was used a century ago. The Tories and their press allies have enabled and supported some of the most disgusting Islamophobia as their latest weapon and now there isn't a political force left to even give token opposition and halt this distracting blame game.
