What I wish they meant: Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Windows, YouTube, Zoom etc.

I like to imagine that #Mastodon instances that have a large number of users like mastodon(.)social are like big cities like New York or San Francisco, and Mastodon instances that have a much smaller number of users is like a quaint little town in the countryside where everyone knows everyone. It depends on which you feel more comfortable being in.

Mastodon is cool but it lacks my favorite feature from birdsite which is the timeline jumping as soon as your eyes see an interesting post that you'll never find again

I'm pleased to note that even https://dolphin.town, my Mastodon server where the only letter you are allowed to post is "e", has seen increased activity in the last few days.

Folks who are trying to convince friends to try out the Fediverse: I strongly recommend not talking about what's wrong or evil about other sites/platforms. Instead, perhaps try focusing on how much better it feels here, how much more human, more diverse, more organic it can be.

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.
