Have to pay a $150 "service charge" to my ISP for a tech to come down, along with additional fees for them to actually work and rewire the connections so the modem can be connected in a different room that already has the proper outlets in place.
Can't choose a different #ISP because I have one choice in this area. Isn't the Internet in America great?
@malin I have too much self-hosting stuff I want to do that tethering wouldn't work well :/ and my mobile plan is with the same company for now so it wouldn't get me away from them. Can't move to a different provider until next year, unfortunately.
@pinguino_azulado Shame. I've just moved country, and delighted to find that despite being called 'second world', or whatever, the internet is fast and cheap, and a private static IP is about €3 per month. It's been a great tool as I'm still learning the basics.
@malin Makes me jealous, but hopeful that the country I'm stuck in right now can improve in the future. Hopefully the near future
@pinguino_azulado I hope so too. I was just chatting with an Iranian friend, and the internet is so poor there I wouldn't be surprised if revolution occurred largely due to a poor connection to YouTube.
@malin The world is really at the point where not having robust internet access is a huge net loss to the populace, and the disparity will grow further for those without access.
@pinguino_azulado I feel for you. :(
@pinguino_azulado My friends with net problems ended up permanently tethering. It works well if you have an unlimited phone package.
