@pinguino_azulado personally I'm ok with the base OS being stale and stable, but software I use a lot (like web browser) I want to be newish. Same with the DE. Relying on the distro to backport updates and bug fixes leads to a situation like Debian has with certain libraries or programs being too outdated compared to upstream.
I don't like having to choose between updated apps with updated base OS, versus stable OS and stale apps.
@matt
I think I just don't use such a large software library that I notice much at all! Bugs are fixed and I don't have to worry about breakage. I might think differently if qutebrowser implements new features that rely on PyQt 5.11 (Debian has 5.9), but until then, smooth sailing. I'll hope that backports for it exist or I'll just hope it's not too complex so I can backport it myself.
@matt funny thing about flatpaks actually is that you can use the stability of the debian core os + bleeding edge applications...
@le_ArthurDent true that!
@matt
I stick with Debian simply because of stability. At least for me, the reason I used Testing or wanting to try rolling release distros was because I wanted all the new features of whatever DE I was using.
Once I just went with a WM, the only software I care to have the newest version for is my web browser, which makes it easy enough to be bleeding edge even with Debian Stable.
