Today I ran into a fun, but also kind of pointless project. It annoys me that this old 486 from 1995 had no meaning, no task anymore for a long time. But it's still a nice machine, the first I played with as a child. So the project is: Make it run Toot on a Linux Terminal. So far I managed to get Debian 3.0 running and a network connection via an emulated modem on the serial port (haha). It's fun. But I'm stuck, cause I can't get Python 3 to run. It's fun, though. Did I mention it's fun?

Oh look - it's a totally normal Canadian, with helpful political facts:

With over 8 answers a day over the past year, it looks like he really likes spreading legitimate political information.

Sometimes I hear about moderation problems, and issues caused by centralization, and I think "maybe people will switch to Mastodon".

Then I see that people are paying for internet, and a separate landline, with a particular package to phone abroad, because paying monthly is preferred to rethinking how to communicate.

Could we get a standardized kitchen protocol?

I got a new flat, and now have the odious task of deciding where everything in the kitchen lives. If we could make a standard then I could just do that, and when people wake up hungover in a new flat, they'd know where the coffee is.

Believe the hype about Linux Mint.

I installed it on my partner's laptop months ago, and she's been using it silently ever since. Not a single help request.

Well, we don't bother users with advertisements and we don't have any sales or monetization either. However, we appreciate each and every donation we're receiving. ❀️

Travelling with a laptop really hammers home the importance of caching data.

There's no technical reason that you can't catch up on the latest news, send and receive messages, watch videos, and generally function roughly as normal when going offline for a little while, but almost nothing's set up for it.

I'm slowly getting to the point where I have enough set up that I don't need to ask for the wifi when at a coffee shop - I just work with what's cached - and it's a much nicer workflow.
