I've just been reminded by @BradleySmall that the wiki is the "Have you tried turning it off and on?" of .

Always go there first. Just always.

I'll learn eventually. 😀

Saying that #freesw projects 'don't exist' if they're not on #github is like saying that people 'cease to exist' if or when they #deletefacebook

#deletegithub everybody (I did even hours before they announced the takeover!)

Sweet! I thought going would mean I'd have to give up most of my favourite authors.

But I just discovered that my favourite author Alastair Reynolds has at least one book published by Tor.com who dropped in 2012.

Yes! publishing.tor.com/permafrost-

Does anybody know how to disable middle click paste in ? All I can find are instructions on how to disable the whole button, or disable paste on the desktop.

I need to use the middle click to pan in a graphics application, and it keeps pasting from my cache when I do so.

The rest of this documentary on and was excellent. Definitely a good one to show to anyone you know who is on the fence or not yet fully aware of why they should care:

Also, it was crowdfunded and released under Creative Commons, which is great.

You can download a copy to watch via torrent if you prefer:

I only wish their site said "Follow us on Mastodon" not "Follow us on Facebook".

Trying to learn about the @PINE64 .

With a suitable operating system, would it be possible to have the machine running 100% / ?

Just started watching a free doc on mass which, while I appreciate all efforts, I feel is starting on the wrong foot.

Their opening counter to the "nothing to hide" nonsense is that most adults have committed at least minor crimes.

This response IMO is harmful. Profit driven invasions are in no way motivated by policing crime. It's the opposite.

Privacy is matter of self-defence against dangerous, often criminal, actors. We shouldn't let them flip the script.

So, as we all would have assumed, Facebook was well aware of Cambridge Analytica's shitshow much earlier that they claimed.

I know we all expect this, but soooo many people don't yet realise the threat FB poses, so circulating this information remains very important.

We've got to stop calling ourselves "consumers". Two videos in a row I just watched discussing the Epic games store referred to customers as "consumers".

That's how someone who has no respect thinks of you - as an inanimate cog in their profit machine.

Would an expensive restaurant call their diners "consumers"? Would a successful musician call their fans "consumers"? Would a lawyer call their clients "consumers"?

We have to stop dehumanizing ourselves. I am not a "consumer".

I just bought indie DRM free music online for the first time. Stoked!

I grabbed Red Ambassador's discography after hearing the track Time on @killyourfm 's podcast, and loving it.

I'd like to take a moment of your timeline to ask folks to use CamelCase in your tags. I didn't know until I came to masto that this helps people who use screen readers parse them as words rather than jumbles of characters. When there are multiple words mashed together in a tag, try capitalising each one, for instance #CommissionMe #CallForArt #LookingForArtist

you can go to an online screen reader site like this one to check out the difference it makes: ttsreader.com #accessibility

You really should always read the Terms of Service agreements closely.
“We have updated our privacy policy.” #privacy

Do not google "amazon fires" to read news about the whole Amazon burning because you will get results of Amazon Fire Tablets and then *you* will be the one wanting to burn some things around you.

Good lord, the sheer amount of corporate apologists, even within purported communities online, is utterly confounding.

"Oh no, don't you see they had to fuck us over? Won't someone think of corporate profits? If we don't immediately submit, how will the shareholders get their dividends?"

For goodness sake, have some self respect and stand up for yourself a little.

Thank god for . The people here are sane, and it's a absolute breath of fresh air.

(I don't normally quotetoot but seems important to give some context here:)

@sean writes the Fediverse's news site @blog, the excellent vidcommons.org instance on PeerTube, and runs lots of other projects promoting decentralised social media. He provides these free of charge, but now needs our help.

If you are able to support his good work, please give him a hand 👍

Details of how you can send support in the post below:

Thank you

So since I discovered the Ice SSB app I mentioned a while ago I have a little dedicated Firefox window that now has 8 tabs with different instances in it.

I may have developed a problem.
