since when are laptops capable of doing automatic BIOS firmware updates? this is my dell xps13 after a normal reboot. like where did the computer even get the update from? i am confused... https://linuxrocks.online/media/VnbiJlHWjcMiYThKPSk
@gka automatic bios updates have been a thing for quite a few years now. I think HP and Dell laptops do that.
@kensp one of the new features the update brought is that the laptops cpu fan is running constantly now :( htop shows cpu no 6 on high usage but not app is consuming more than one or two percent.. https://linuxrocks.online/media/UC9EunNx10GAi5NS81U
@gka it goes via the internet to get it :) The bios will make a DHCP request, and go check a Dell webpage to see if there's a new bios file! My Asus mobo does the same :)
@blub yes, there was no consent. it was just me rebooting. I think it happened because I had the laptop on a LAN connection for the first time (I image it can't update the firmware over password protected wifi?)
