Hmm, all this talk of forking and such makes me curious about how complicated it would be to make a Mastodon-compatible headless server. No fancy web frameworks, no front-end, just a server. Maybe written in Rust or something like that.

This is empty musing as I already have a side project that I need to get much further on before even considering adding another one onto my plate. Still though, makes me wonder.

I don't know how this slipped my radar but this (https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/8pud8b/psa_red_shell_spyware_holy_potatoes_were_in_space/) is infuriating. I paid for the damn game and the game's developers think that gives them carte blanche to send out identifiable information to some 3rd party. And the service is even more laughable, they do "one way hashing" on PII and call that enough to handle GDPR/anonymize their data. SHA256 is 1-to-1 you idiots, still a unique identifier!

Playing The Script or similar at a gym should be a crime. Especially one that markets itself as a powerlifting/bodybuilding gym. Doesn't have to be power metal 24/7, but it's gotta at least be upbeat.

Forgot I had a GitHub Developer subscription, so canceled that today. Signed up for GitLab Starter, pretty sweet that it carries between standalone instances and GitLab.com. Cheaper than GitHub Developer too ($84 vs $48 per year)

Always feel better after lifting heavy. Especially with some heavy beats thundering in my ears (provided today courtesy of the DOOM soundtrack). Excellent stress relief!

I keep hearing that GitLab is hard to maintain, but I've never had that problem with the self-hosted instance I run at my work.

Especially with the omnibus package, I've gone from 9.2ish up through 10.8 and never had so much as a hiccup other than the other users suffering a bit of whiplash from the UI changes.

Seems the 200% scaling on my 4K monitor is why Mastodon doesn't quite fit 6 columns. May have to make a user-script or something to force everything to resize appropriately, because this is really annoying. Also, I remember Mastodon having styled scroll bars, where I just have normal Windows scroll bars now (FF 60.0.1), does this happen for anyone else?

In other news, I think I'll move my currently active repository to Gitlab and mirror over to GH. I use self-hosted Gitlab at work so I'm more familiar with it anyways.

Quite a bit of vitriol on the fediverse today/yesterday. Very glad I'm just a kernel-level developer that tinkers with personal gamedev. Don't have to worry about abuse vectors and all that stuff, though I'm glad people are talking about it (though I wish people could be calmer/reasonabler).

Finally got bit by the infamous sudden shutdown issue on my Nexus 6P. Guess it's finally time to consider replacing the battery or upgrading (I guess the nearest thing is the LG V20??)
