What end-to-end encryption messaging app do people use and why?

Bonus: has good video calling?

@canuckifiedoz I use XMPP for text, which has been my preferred option for more than 10 years now. For video I would probably use Nextcloud, since I already have it for other things.

@canuckifiedoz signal, or nextcloud talk. Ring seems to also be worth trying.

@canuckifiedoz XMPP! It's reliable, fairly decentralized; accessible clients for various platforms and supports audio/video to a limited extent. Ring is also becoming a strong option for video chat.

@canuckifiedoz riot!
Easy to use on multiple devices (you can pass encryption keys super easily, it just prompts automatically and then you can scan a qr code or blindly trust) and really high quantity audio and video called.
