After see this post social.coop/@gc/10016493658144 it made me wonder how us linuxrocks folks decide to name our hosts. For me, I'm a huge fan so my first 3 hosts were always going to be , and . After that I decided to just start using hostnames more descriptive of function, location or hardware, like for my based NAS, for my ODROID C2 and for my UDOO X86 box. How do the rest of you decide to name your hosts? Or do you just have one?

@alchemyjones I went with Doctor Who. Tardis for my nas because its a little box with 16Tb's of drives. Get it? bigger on the inside lol. doctor for laptop and various character names for the rest.

@omnipotens @alchemyjones I got server names after elements like , , , . And more in the theme of , , etc.

I use Norse gods at the moment, I had a Thor (now retired), and currently have a Loki and a Heimdall. Thor will likely return on the next build at home, but maybe it'll be Odin.

@alchemyjones At work functional and ridged naming convention as to be expected.

At home functional shorter names then for my labs I revert back to the work naming convention because there's less to think about when the names are all obvious if your coding and testing things.

@alchemyjones name by functionality for servers, random names for workstations/laptops.
