Wouldn't using an adblocker constitute the same? Since they're not making money?

Online magazines also get their business from pageviews regardless of advertisements being blocked. There's a strange system, I don't know the exact details on.

Really? I'm pretty sure if you block all ads and trackers and don't use affiliates, they get nothing.

As far as I know from 2014, they do have business on page impressions / views, though not as valuable as advertisements and affiliate links. It's why a lot of people recommend to archive the articles and never directly visit.
