Am I the only person that's getting very uncomfortable with how "Big" companies like AT&T, Facebook and Google are getting? And how much they know about us? And the price they have attached to our data to whom ever is willing to pay.
So the man that created and maintains #telegram is a Russian. He is boldly refusing to hand over our privacy to the Russian government. I say we should all rally around him, it's only a matter of time before our governments do the same to us. Every battle lost is severe and every victory is needed.
Total time invested in getting a gentoo system running.
Machine time: 27 hours to full boot with i3 and a functional web browser.
Human time: around 4 hours.
Boot time: sub 45 second range.
No where near a gui. Although I plan on using i3 exclusively
Starting hour 4 and only half way through the emerge update process. Going to bed. Maybe it'll be done in the morning.
Attempting my 1st gentoo install... wow they were not joking about how long it takes. But I hear it's like a right of passage so I'll grind away until it's done.
After a week of forced use of i3 I went back to my usual de. Took less than 5 minutes to realize i3 is infinitely more efficient. So now I'm thinking nuke and pave with ubuntu server and then install x and i3... no traditional de at all.

@BryanLunduke Feeling like the gnu/father of the year. Got my 14 year old son started with linux. On day 3 he is already wanting to learn to code and showing interest in Stallman and Torvalds. Gotta say, I'm more than a little proud.
Would a nexus 5 with plasma mobile be considered a foss friendly smart phone? I'm currently on a note 8 with signal sms and Firefox browser and duck duck go as my search engine. And zero google play apps. Would the plasma mobile be a marked improvement?
How can any intelligent person listen to a Richard Stallman interview and not feel empowered and inspired? Maybe my line isn't perfectly aligned with the "Stallman line" but every time I hear his message I drift more towards his idea of what freedom really is.
